David Benner Memorial Scholarship
The David Benner Memorial Scholarship was established, to honor the legacy of former Indiana Pacers Media Relations Director, David Benner. A proud 1973 graduate of Center Grove High School who attended Indiana University-Bloomington and IUPUI, Benner began his journalism career as a copy boy at The Star and later joined the sports staff, where his beats included high schools, IU, Notre Dame and covering the Pacers from 1983-1991. David became Media Relations Director for the Pacers in 1994 and retired in June 2022.
The Pacers Foundation provides individual scholarships of $2,500 on an annual basis to undergraduate students who are following the career of David Benner; applicants must be an undergraduate student presently enrolled in an Indiana college, university, two-year junior, and community college with an academic major of journalism, radio, TV, & digital broadcasting, and other related disciplines. The scholarship is supported by those who remember David and who want to perpetuate his legacy.
